Its a very cold Saturday morning in the middle of winter and today we are going to the GelreDome in Arnhem to watch the Monster Truck show. This is going to be a thrilling day filled with monster trucks performing stunts, tricks, and high-flying jumps.
It is a very cold day, but we are fortunate that they have closed the roof of the stadium to keep us warm. We have great seats, sitting behind the trucks and very close to the field. It is an incredible experience to be so close to the action and feel the ground shake with every move of the trucks.
What is Monster Jam?
A lot of people know what a monster truck is. We grew up calling all monster trucks Bigfoot, however the original Bigfoot began as a modified 1974 Ford F250. This came to be known as the first monster truck.
It all starter from a modified Ford F250 to what we have today as MONSTER JAM !!!!
Monster Jam is a thrilling live motorsport event that showcases some of the most powerful and iconic monster trucks in the world. These massive machines are truly a sight to behold, with each truck boasting impressive specifications and capabilities. Here are some of the incredible features of Monster Jam trucks:
- Each Monster Jam truck is approximately 3.2 meters tall, 3.8 meters wide, 5.2 meters long and weighs 5400 kilograms.
- The Monster Jam truck engine produces 1 500 horsepower. The engine is fuelled by methanol and uses a specially designed safety cell to consume 10 liters of fuel per minute.
- The BKT tires used in Monster Jam are approximately 1.6 meters in diameter and 1 meters wide. They are inflated to a pressure of 1.6 Bar and with the wheel, weigh around 293 kilograms each.
- The truck bodies are custom-built and constructed of fiberglass.
Start your Engines !!!
The excitement was palpable as we waited for the start of Monster Jam. The crowd was buzzing with anticipation, eagerly awaiting the moment when the massive trucks would come to life and take to the course. As the time drew near, the sound of engines revving filled the air, and the trucks began to perform a few warmup laps.
The ground shook beneath our feet as the trucks thundered past, each one a marvel of engineering and design. It was a truly unforgettable experience, and we were all on the edge of our seats, eagerly awaiting the start of the competition.
The monster trucks that will compete here today is: Megalodon, Scooby-Doo, Grave Digger, Earth Shaker, El Toro Loco, Max-D, Blue Thunder, and Monster Mutt Dalmatian.
The Racing Competition
As we sat in the stands, the excitement was palpable as we waited for the first race of the Racing Competition to begin. The crowd was buzzing with anticipation, and we could feel the energy in the air as everyone eagerly awaited the start of the competition.
So what is the Racing Competition you might wonder?
The Race Competition is an exciting event that pits the world’s most powerful and skilful trucks against each other in an all-out race to the finish line. The competition takes place on a prescribed course, with each truck vying to be the first to cross the finish line.
The winner of each race advances to the next round, and the process continues until only two trucks remain. The final race determines the racing champion, and the stakes are high as each driver pushes their truck to the limit in pursuit of victory.
If you listen closely to the videos, you can hear us screaming and cheering for each of our favourites. Personally, I am a Max-D fan and my son is the biggest Grave Digger fan…

Next up … The Skills Challenge
During the Skills Challenge event, drivers will have the chance to showcase their skills by performing stunts that involve getting at least two wheels off the ground. They can also choose to perform donuts or cyclones as an alternative. The skills challenge winner is determined by attendees voting via a score tracking website. The truck with the highest score at the end of the event wins that particular competition.
This was a lot of fun since we get to participate in scoring the performance of each monster truck. We used our mobile phones to send a score after each performance. This allowed us to feel like we participate in the competition and adds an extra level of excitement to the event.
Were we biased to our favourite Monster Truck?
Yes. Yes we were.
Finally, the Freestyle Competition
The most impressive part of the show is definitely the freestyle competition, where each monster truck performs tricks and stunts throughout the arena within a specific time. This is where you see impressive tricks and high-flying jumps, which showcase the incredible power and agility of these machines.
It is here where we realised the amazing skill of the drivers, since the trucks are jumping into the air, hitting the ground extremely hard.
Eventually a number of the trucks broke due to these high flying tricks they performed. The body (truck) count started to increase as more and more trucks went all out to impress the crowd.

Overall, the Monster Jam show was an unforgettable experience that I will always cherish. From the thunderous roar of the engines to the heart-stopping stunts and tricks, every moment of the event was filled with excitement and energy.
